About Sebastian

I design and build the systems that enterprises run on — and I never stopped coding to do it.
If you need a solution architect who actually ships, I bring nearly 20 years turning complex requirements into production systems that last. I've led teams of up to 14 across pharmaceutical, financial, energy, and advertising clients, owning architecture end-to-end while staying hands-on in the codebase. The result: solutions that are sound on paper and in production.
What I typically deliver:
Cloud-native architectures on AWS (Lambda, Fargate, DynamoDB, SQS, Amplify, CloudFront). Enterprise content platforms built on Adobe Experience Manager — Sites, Assets, Dynamic Media, DAM migrations, search integrations, the full stack. Legacy system rescues where I untangle years of tech debt, re-architect for performance and maintainability, and prove the gains with hard numbers. API-driven integrations connecting platforms to third-party data sources. Performance engineering — I once cut a daily 2,000-record import from ~1.5 days of 100% server load down to ~30 minutes, and delivered ~3× faster page loads through caching strategy and a custom Cloudflare ESI worker.
What sets me apart:
I combine architectural vision with deep implementation skill — I don't hand off designs, I build them. I have a strong algorithms and optimization background (backtracking, greedy, Dijkstra) that I've applied to real operational problems, including a crude-oil logistics optimizer for YPF that's still running in production 15+ years later. I code daily with AI-assisted tooling — Copilot, Cursor, Claude, local LLMs — and run autonomous agents for overnight code review. And I lead distributed, cross-cultural teams with the same care I put into system design: clear standards, honest communication, long-term thinking.

    Solution Architect / Technical Lead
    August 2019 - Today (6 years and 10 months)
    Barcelona, Spain
Lead architect for enterprise AEM and AWS solutions across pharmaceutical, financial, energy, and out-of-home advertising clients. Roche — Solution Architect, full AEM portfolio (~2 years): Owned architecture across platforms including medinfo, Medically, forpatients, Genentech, smasoc, ieepo, and pspglobal, leading a 14-person team (incl. 2 PMs) across new builds and cross-portfolio maintenance.
    • • Re-architected the forpatients platform — an 8-year-old legacy system — into the single source of truth for clinical-trials data across all Roche platforms, removing duplicated ClinicalTrials.gov integrations.
    • • Replaced a non-performant nested-workflow design with a Sling Jobs architecture, cutting a ~2,000-trial daily import from ~1.5 days of 100% server load to ~30 minutes.
    • • Designed a caching strategy and a custom Cloudflare ESI worker for dynamic AEM pages, improving page-load performance ~3x (before/after load testing) and hardening security against attacks exploiting weak Dispatcher/Cloudflare configuration.
    • • JCDecaux — InMotion: Architected a public-safety platform for certifying video ads (VAMM safety score) on UK street-level billboards — a Python analyzer on AWS Fargate plus an Amplify + React + TypeScript client app using Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, and Cognito.
    • • Natixis IM: Built their entire AEM solution from scratch, with index-fund/ETF API integrations and a full DAM migration into AEM. Danone: delivered AEM solution architecture.
    • • Designed cloud-native, event-driven architectures serving 10K+ daily users and 20+ markets per platform; led 3–10 developer teams across 10+ concurrent projects, improving delivery through better architecture and standards.

AEM technical lead across enterprise clients including UBS, DHL, Henkel, Allianz, and Miles & More.
    • • Architected and grew a struggling single-client prototype into a company-wide universal AEM search connector, adopted across major clients. Hooked into the AEM replication queue to generate documents for any engine (Solr, Attivio, Fusion, Elasticsearch), with a centralized querying layer that eliminated client-specific implementations.
    • • Led the search team of 5 (3 developers, a PM, a data-mining engineer).

    • • Technical lead on Pentland (large DAM project with custom workflows and deep Adobe-product integrations) and Roche medinfo/smasoc (built from the ground up). Worked hands-on across the full Adobe stack: Sites, Assets, Dynamic Media, Smart Tags, Brand Portal, Target, Campaign, Workfront.
