Al developed a pairing tool that handled chess tournaments smoothly. Prior to it the management of tournaments was imprecise and required a lot of manual work, based on Excel spreadsheets. The tool picks up information from public sources (player ratings), determines and schedules all games that must be played (over 100), takes care of all calculations (including complex tie-breaking criteria), communicates with players via email and delivers results swiftly. A good example of using information technology to adapt to business processes!

Al created a team captains' app for our chess club. He took the time to really understand our process, working out how he could simplify it for us and save us time. He adjusted his plans in response to feedback during the process. The final product works and will be really helpful for our team captains.
